Two proactive deputies assigned to patrol the unincorporated areas of the Santa Clarita Valley made a significant arrest this past weekend during a routine traffic stop early Sunday morning, 02/10/2013. The deputies, working an early morning patrol shift, conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle in the area of Valencia Boulevard and the Interstate 5 Freeway, unincorporated Santa Clarita Valley, just after midnight.

The deputies contacted the driver of the vehicle, Mike Castillo, a 23 year-old male from Van Nuys. Deputies report that during the investigation they recovered a loaded firearm concealed under the driver’s seat, metal knuckles, a pipe commonly used to smoke methamphetamine, a large knife, and a baggy containing methamphetamine. The firearm was reported stolen out of the El Cajon area in San Diego County.

Mr. Castillo was arrested and booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station on charges of possession of a loaded firearm while in possession of narcotics, carrying a concealed loaded stolen firearm, possession of metal knuckles, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and for driving on a suspended license (ref – 01933).

He is being held at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station in lieu of $50,000 bail. He is due in North Valley Superior Court, San Fernando, on Wednesday, 02/13/2013.
