LOS ANGELES – Senator Fran Pavley (D-Agoura Hills) will host a “Senior Scam Stopper” Seminar on March 8. This seminar will help consumers learn how to spot common scams and avoid falling prey to them.

“The state of California has many ways to punish scammers when they are caught,” said Senator Pavley. “But by then, for many, the damage is already done. It can take years to rebuild ones finances and cope with the other damage caused by these scammers—time that seniors would rather spend with their families and friends.”

The event will be held in cooperation with the Contractor’s State License Board (CSLB), which started hosting these seminars in 1999 in response to complaints about unscrupulous contractors and others preying on seniors.

The seminar will cover several topics, from protecting yourself from identity theft to avoiding scams around investments, and home and car repair. Other speakers will include Jane Kreidler, Outreach Coordinator with the CSLB, Dora Hernandez with California Health Advocates, and a representative from Los Angeles County Community and Senior Services.
