A suspected armed robbery suspect is behind bars today thanks to an alert patrol deputy, and a collaborative effort between detectives from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff Station's Robbery and Assault team, members of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff Station's Community Interaction Team (CIT), and members of the County of Los Angeles/Sheriff's Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) team assigned to the Santa Clarita Valley.

On Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2009, at 9:45 a.m., deputies responded to Ricky's Liquor located at 18520 Soledad Canyon Road, Canyon Country, to reports of an armed robbery. Deputies determined that an adult male allegedly entered the business, pointed a handgun at the clerk and demanded money. The suspect fled the location after obtaining an undisclosed amount of United States Currency.

During the continuing investigation, detectives were able to identify a vehicle the suspect was believed to be driving. The description of the vehicle was briefed to all patrol deputies.

An alert patrol deputy spotted the vehicle, just one day after the robbery, parked in the 18400 block of Jakes Way, Unincorporated Los Angeles County - Canyon Country. An immediate operation was launched utilizing the team members and resources outlined above.

At 1:00 p.m. yesterday afternoon, the suspect, later identified as Jaime Gonzalez, MH/35, of Canyon Country, returned to the vehicle and he was taken into custody without incident following a traffic stop.

After the arrest, detectives from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station wrote and served a search warrant in the 18400 block of Jakes Way in direct connection with this case.

Suspect Gonzalez was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station on a felony Robbery charge. He is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail pending future court proceedings.

The investigation is ongoing and there is no further information at this time.

Anyone with information regarding this suspect or this case is asked to immediately contact the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station at (661) 255-1121.
