Happy Valentine’s Day to the Santa Clarita Valley! I hope everyone gets roses, candy and beautiful cards to celebrate!

Silvertone Singers

Celebrate Valentine’s Day with a special performance by the Silvertone Singers. The Silvertone Singers, a volunteer chorus under the direction of John Swinford, will perform a free concert at 3 p.m. on Valentine’s Day, Thursday, Feb. 14 at the Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center, 22900 Market St., Newhall. Donations welcome and will benefit the Senior Center. For information call 661-252-0988.

Join the Silvertones

The Silvertone Singers are also welcoming new recruits. If you’re interested you’re invited to sing with the Silvertone Singers. The SCV Senior Center volunteer chorus welcome you to come sing each Monday, noon to 2 p.m. at the Newhall Community Center, 22421 Market St., Newhall. For more information about the group call 661-252-0988.

Men of Harmony

The handsome Men of Harmony neglected to remind me of their annual Sweetheart Serenades. If they’re not sold out you can have a quartet from the Men of Harmony deliver a special Valentine to your sweetheart on Wednesday or Thursday this week. The cost is $45 for regular delivery anytime between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. in the SCV. For $55 you can schedule “special delivery” within 15 minutes of an appointed time. For more information visit www.scmenofharmony.com or call 661-296-2292.

See Dr. Sam

Dr. Samuel Kojoglanian, the “mender of hearts,” will speak at the Soroptimist International of Greater SCV luncheon on Tuesday, Feb. 12. The public is welcome to attend, as it’s heart health month. Dr. Sam is an International Cardiologist and a gifted communicator who is called to mend hearts, heal souls and rock this planet. A graduate of the University of Southern California, Dr. Sam serves his community by mending hearts as a physician and healing souls. He is a highly sought out motivational speaker and travels internationally to schools, universities, prisons, youth events, churches, athletic events, business seminars and corporations to encourage, restore and inspire his audiences.

Check in will be available at 11:15 a.m., so you have as much time as possible to network before the program begins at 11:30 a.m. You must RSVP at: www.sigscv.org/calendar/february-sigscv-luncheon.

Nominations sought

Nominate a cancer survivor, patient, caregiver or advocate for those impacted by cancer to be the Santa Clarita Valley honoree as the Breakaway from Cancer Champion.

Amgen’s Breakaway from Cancer is an initiative to increase awareness of important resources available to people affected by cancer — from prevention through survivorship.

Four individuals — one from each of the 2013 Amgen Tour of California communities of Escondido, Santa Clarita, Santa Barbara and Livermore — who have made a positive impact and acted as an inspiration to those affected by cancer within their community will be selected as the Breakaway from Cancer Champions.

I can’t think of anyone who would represent the SCV better than Heather Warrick.

Despite her recent death Heather was a cancer warrior who worked tirelessly to help others with cancer, despite her own battles.

Breakaway from Cancer Champions will be granted special access to the 2013 Amgen Tour of California, award a jersey to a professional cyclist, be recognized on stage, and lead the Breakaway Mile through their community. Sponsored by Amgen, the Breakaway Mile takes place at the finish line of the Amgen Tour of California to honor the millions of cancer survivors worldwide.

Deadline for nominations is Feb. 25.

Full criteria and information about becoming a Breakaway from Cancer Champion is available at www.breakawayfromcancer.com/champions.

Celebrate Heather Warrick

Join Heather Warrick’s family, friends and supporters at a service to celebrate her amazing life. The event will be held 2-4 p.m. today at the Hyatt Regency Valencia.
