Interstate 5 through the Grapevine reopened shortly after midnight after wintery weather forced closures on the freeway for the second time in as many months.

The California Highway Patrol closed the interstate around 4:15 p.m. yesterday due to ice and snow on the roadway.

CHP began conducting guided escorts through the Grapevine around 9 p.m. yesterday, according to reports. Hundreds of cars were set to be escorted through the area as of 10 p.m.

I-5 was also closed through the Grapevine in early January due to a snowstorm. During that storm the freeway was shut down for two straight nights. The second closure remained in effect for about 16 hours.

The roadway is now fully open. While low temperatures are forecast to linger throughout the weekend, the weather will be sunny, according to the National Weather Service. Highs are expected to be 53 Saturday, 57 Sunday and 59 Monday, with lows in the 30s.
