Rancho Pico Junior High School and Academy of the Canyons, the Hart District's middle college high school, have received word they are nominated for recognition as California Distinguished Schools for the 2009-10 school year.

The two were among some 500 California schools which met the state's revised criteria for the honor and were invited to submit applications.

The two William S. Hart Union High School District nominees now are scheduled for on-site visits to confirm their status.
