Local sheriff’s deputies have doubled their patrol presence in response to a statewide alert for an ex-LAPD officer who has shot other cops, a sheriff’s spokesman said.

“Everybody’s on alert,” said Lt. Mark Hershey of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

Los Angeles police are on tactical alert today as they search for an ex-officer suspected of twice opening fire on officers after being named as a double-murder suspect, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Fired LAPD officer Christopher Dorner is suspected of killing a Riverside officer and wounding another early Thursday, shortly after shooting at two LAPD officers in the nearby city of Corona. One LAPD officer was grazed.

As a result, commanding officers with the local sheriff’s station are today dispatching two-man units to each call, Hershey said.

As well, they’re dispatching two cars to each call.

“This guy (suspect) is paranoid now because he thinks everyone in the police world is after him,” Hershey said.
“That’s why we’re being precautionary.”

The manhunt began after Dorner was named a suspect in the weekend killing of a couple. One victim was the daughter of a former police captain who represented him during disciplinary proceedings that led to his firing.
