The Takers vs. The Makers

In response to Charlie Vignola’s column "If you can’t beat ‘em, cheat ‘em" (Jan. 29):

This column brings a whole different political party to my mind.

I happen to be a "rational Republican," but I certainly do not fit his concept of me on so many levels that I will not respond to most of his statements here.

He is so wrong in his estimates of why the Democrats "won" the 2012 election.

The majority of this country identifies as conservative. So why didn’t more of them vote that way? Because the Takers in our country now outnumber the Makers.

To paraphrase Benjamin Franklin: When voters realize that they can vote money and benefits to themselves, our republic is in dire jeopardy.

If our citizens do not learn this lesson immediately and vote accordingly, our nation will soon see how those Takers will struggle to take for themselves when the Makers have simply moved on.

That future makes this "rational Republican" so sad. I grieve for our USA.
