Santa Clarita’s newest fire station officially opened for business with a flag-raising ceremony Friday morning.

Station 150, located at 19190 Golden Valley Road in the Fair Oaks Ranch area, is the 16th fire station in the city of Santa Clarita, according to Stephanie English, a spokeswoman with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

The fire station will house a total of nine firefighters and be the home of the department’s local hazardous materials division, English said.

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors approved construction of the $12.5 million station in August 2010. As proposed, the station would be 19,667-square-feet in size and built with sustainable features such as water-efficient fixtures and drought-resistant landscaping.

Though Friday’s event marked the opening of the station, the official dedication ceremony will not take place until late March or early April, English said. That ceremony will be open to the public.
