A $500 reward is offered for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of a vandal or vandals who destroyed more than a dozen Signal newspaper boxes this week.

Some time after midnight Tuesday and before sunrise Wednesday, vandals damaged 13 newspaper-dispensing boxes in Canyon Country along Soledad Canyon Road from the 22900 block of Soledad to the 18500 block, said Russ Briley, director of product sales and distribution for the paper.

On Thursday, deputies with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station visited the newspaper on Creekside Road and took notes on the property damage, estimated at more than $1,000, said Briley, who met with them.

“We had 13 racks broken into and three racks marked with graffiti and vandalized,” Briley said.

In each of the acts, the newspaper rack locks were broken and the cash boxes taken, looted and discarded, he said.
