Dear Editor:
Like the King of Siam, I have a puzzlement. Maybe a Signal reader can help.
Every couple of weeks I get a peculiar telephone call on my AT&T land line. It is during the daytime when I’m oftentimes busy.
I hastily turn off the burners on the stove, or the iron, or race in from outside. But when I pick up the phone and say “Hello,” there is nothing but silence.
Then in a few seconds a woman’s voice says “Goodbye,” elongating the last syllable so it sounds like “goodbyeee.”
Who is making these calls? Why? Are others getting them, too?
Solution, anyone?
