The Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station will hold a checkpoint within city limits on Feb. 8.

The Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station will hold a checkpoint within city limits on Feb. 8 to screen drivers who may be unlicensed or driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

The checkpoint will be at an undisclosed location and run from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m., according to the Sheriff’s Station.

Sheriff’s deputies organize regular checkpoints to screen for potential DUI offenders, check driver’s license and insurance information and enforce the state Vehicle Code.

At their last checkpoint on Jan. 18, deputies arrested one person for driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, arrested another man on an outstanding arrest warrant and cited 19 others for various violations of the vehicle code.

Four vehicles were also towed during the checkpoint and three of those were impounded for a period of at least 30 days.

Funding for this and similar checkpoints comes from a grant from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
