Before eating out, my family and I seem to have the same conversation.  I ask “What do you feel like eating?” Half my family replies “I want Mexican food” and the rest of the family declares, “I want Italian food.” But why should anyone have to choose just one?  Why not have the best of both worlds? I ran into this great little Italian and Mexican Kitchen in Santa Clarita called Mar-Y- Bella’s Grill. It’s on the corner of Langside Avenue and Soledad Canyon Rd. The food is amazing! The crazy thing about this place is that they specialize in both Italian and Mexican food. Yeah... go figure. They focus on two of my most favorite types of food. I went there with a group of people and everybody ordered a different combination.  Their seafood dishes, like the 7 Mare Sopas, are remarkable. A friend of mine ordered a unique combination of chile relleno, enchilada, and lasagna. I ordered the chicken enchilada combo platter, and it was terrific! Next time, I am definitely going to order the Carne Asada Pizza… it looks crazy good.  Rigo Gomez, the proprietor, will put together any combination you want.  So if you’re craving Mexican food and your significant other wants Italian food, definitely check out Mar-Y-Bella’s Grill. It’s located at 19971 Soledad Canyon Road, Santa Clarita 91351. Bon Appetite everyone!

If you have lived in Santa Clarita for any length of time you have passed by, visited, or had the privilege of your little one attend St. Stephen’s Preschool.

Opening their doors in 1969 as a ministry of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, the preschool offers a traditional half-day preschool program for 2-5 year olds. Classes meet 2, 3, or 5 days per week, depending on the age of the children. They also offer a 1 day per week parent–tot class along with various enrichment classes.  St. Stephen’s welcomes all children where the Judeo-Christian values of love, acceptance, and inclusiveness are lived out by the staff. The staff members are professionals trained in the field of Early Childhood Education and many of them have been with the preschool for over fifteen years.  This staff longevity is part of what makes St. Stephen’s the quality program that it is.  It also provides continuity from year to year as they offer a nurturing environment where children truly flourish. They focus on a developmental, child centered program which emphasis “play as a child’s work”. They believe children should receive the one on one attention they require to fully develop, and thus, keep the 3 year old and pre K classes at a ratio of two teachers to 13 students.

Director Amanda Foster stated, “We believe that when your child graduates from St. Stephen’s preschool, it is our goal for them to be self-sufficient, effectively express feeling, problem solve, respect all cultures and customs, and develop an age appropriate attention span.

New family registration for the 2013/2014 school year begins March 2, 2013. They are located at 24901 Orchard Village Road, Valencia, Ca 91355. Call 661-259-8527.

Congrats to Santa Clarita for having another record year for filming. Not all who work on these projects have to commute to the SCV, though, as it is home for thousands of residents who work in the film industry in different capacities -- including Tom Smith, who has lived in the SCV for a decade and worked in film, TV and commercial production for 30 years. Now he runs Film It USA, a property and vehicle listings site to connect property owners to the film industry. Check out www.filmitusa.com, and find Tom and Film It USA appearing in the SCV Business Journal on January 31, and The Signal’s Service Directory, which begins February 1. Who knows? Maybe your home or car can be featured in a TV show or movie this year! There’s incentive to finally organize your closet.
