West Ranch Wildcats girls basketball almost gave the Hart Indians their biggest win in two years.

Instead, the Indians gave the win back to the Wildcats.

West Ranch defeated Hart 58-48 Friday night at West Ranch High.

The Wildcats (11-9 overall, 3-3 in the Foothill League) led 18-4 after one quarter and were well on their way to blowing the Indians out before the game changed.

In the third quarter, Hart outscored West Ranch 11-2 to cut the lead to 35-28 after three quarters.

Hart, which hasn’t beaten a Foothill League team other than Golden Valley since Jan. 18, 2011, cut the lead to 39-38 on a Breze Kimble 3-pointer with 4:30 to play in the game.

Kimble scored 14 points.

With Hart (6-14, 1-5) trailing 43-38 and 3:24 to play, Hart guard Nikki Aganian, who led the Indians with 15 points, was whistled for a hard foul and a technical foul — which ended up giving the Wildcats four free throws and possession.

The Wildcats’ lead ballooned to 47-38 and Hart couldn’t come back.

“It’s a game we could have won. We battled and fought. We started slow. We know we can play with them,” said Hart head coach Terra Palmer.

West Ranch was led by the play of guard Whitney Branham, who refused to let her team lose.

She scored 16 points, including eight in the final quarter.
