A driver was transported to the hospital Friday after a rollover crash on southbound Interstate 5 near Lyons Avenue around 10:54 a.m.

The person was driving a car when, for reasons unknown, the car struck a California Highway Patrol sign in the center divider, said CHP Officer Ed Jacobs. The car then rolled over before coming to a rest on its roof.

Jacobs said he did not know if the crash was weather-related. No other vehicles were involved in the incident.

The sign the car struck displayed an electric message reminding drivers to slow down in the area, Jacobs said.

The crash blocked the left-most southbound lane for about an hour as crews worked to clear debris. The roadway was cleared by 12:13 p.m.

The extent of the driver’s injuries and the speed at which the car was traveling were unknown.
