Rain that hit the Santa Clarita Valley today is expected to continue into the weekend, with a 90 percent chance of rain on Friday and Friday night dwindling to a 20 percent chance Sunday, National Weather Service forecasters said.

Rain began falling around 2 a.m. today in the Santa Clarita Valley. By 11 a.m. about half an inch had fallen.

A hazardous weather outlook was issued today for possible urban flooding and dangerous driving conditions due to oil lifted from long-dry streets.

Snow levels were expected to lower to 6,000 feet Friday night and even lower after that, leading to possible road closures through mountain passes Sunday.

Highs were expected to be in the 60s through Saturday and down into the 50s Sunday through Tuesday, with mostly sunny skies by Monday.
