Shelley Hann, executive director of SCV Women and Men of Honor, presented the College of the Canyons Foundation board with a check for $2,500 to fund a scholarship for returning military veterans.

“Instead of giving smaller scholarships we decided we wanted to give one $2,500 scholarship to a returning veteran to make a big difference in their life,” said Hann.

Hann said the scholarship is named the SCV Women and Men of Honor Returning Veteran Scholarship.

Cathy Ritz, chief operating officer of the COC Foundation, said the college is grateful for the donation.

“It is going to mean so much to our returning veterans,” she said. “We can’t thank you enough for this donation.”

The funds for the donation were raised during the annual SCV Women and Men of Honor dinner held in September.

“When we started the SCV Women and Men of Honor we decided to raise funds for existing nonprofits in the SCV relating to health, mental health, the arts and education in the SCV,” said Hann.

The next event for the SCV Women and Men of Honor will be the Sweetheart Gala on Feb. 9 at the Hyatt Regency Valencia. For information email shelleyhannpresents@gmail.com
