The Santa Clarita City Council has agreed to hold a study session in the near future to discuss the possibility of splitting Los Angeles County, said city spokeswoman Gail Ortiz.
Carl Boyer, a former city mayor, asked the council to review the matter on Jan. 8. The council decided to take the item up as a discussion item at a date to be determined, Ortiz said.
Los Angeles County has the largest population of any county in the United States. With 9.8 million residents, the county has a larger population than 42 states.
Boyer wants multiple cities in the county to call for a study on a county breakup.
