A second BevMo is scheduled to open soon in the Santa Clarita Valley, said an official with the city.

The beverage retailer, which carries wines, beers and liquors, had been negotiating for quite a while to move into a store located at 19201 Golden Valley Road, said Jason Crawford, marketing and economic development manager for the city of Santa Clarita.

Founded in 1994, the San Francisco area-based chain recently started making tenant improvements on the inside of the Canyon Country store. BevMo is going in over by Lowe’s, Crawford said.

“It’s a store that we don’t have on the east side,” he said. “It will bring a lot more people to that center.”

The valley’s first BevMo opened on The Old Road, but sales taxes from that store go to the county, as opposed to the city. Sales from the Canyon Country location will benefit local residents and the city of Santa Clarita.

One other benefit, however, is providing east side residents with a shopping option in their part of the town without having to drive across the SCV to shop at the Valencia store.

As of November 2012, BevMo operated 130 stores in California, Arizona and Washington state. Stores typically average 10,000 square feet, according to the retailer. The exact opening date isn’t set yet, but Crawford expects BevMo to open sometime soon in the next few weeks, or month or two, he said. The retailer also has two liquor licenses pending approval.

“We’re really excited,” Crawford said. “It’s going to fill up a vacant space and put a much needed store on the east side of town.”
