Effective Jan. 15, 2009, Hunger Defense Fund merged into it's parent charity, Help the Children.

Hunger Defense Fund was established in Santa Clarita in 2002 to meet the social welfare needs of the poor, distressed or under privileged by providing food, clothing, and personal hygiene supplies in the most effective way possible.

Hunger Defense Fund has been operating as a division of Children's Network International / Help the Children. Since opening, more than 8,500 local Santa Clarita residents have received food from this food bank.

In a continuing effort to operate as efficiently as possible, this merger will provide many cost-saving opportunities. Help the Children is committed to operating on a 1% budget, spending 99 cents of every dollar received on food and programs helping children and their families locally, nationally, and internationally.

The Santa Clarita facility will begin using the name, logo, tax ID number and Web site of Help the Children. Hours of operation, food distribution, and volunteer opportunities will remain the same.

Donations received from the Santa Clarita Valley will continue to support those in need in Santa Clarita unless designated otherwise.

Children's Network International / Help the Children is a top-rated charity by Independent Charities of America, Chronicle of Philanthropy, Los Angeles Business Journal, and Forbes.com.
