A funeral service for Sarah Alarid, whose body was found a week ago at the bottom of a steep ravine, is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at the Real Life Church in Valencia, a spokesman for the family said Tuesday.

The service in honor of the 19-year-old woman — who was missing for more than a week after she left a party early New Year’s Day — will run from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., said the woman’s uncle, Bryan Alarid.

“This will be a celebration of Sarah’s life,” he told The Signal on Tuesday. “We’re asking friends and anyone attending to wear red for Sarah.”

A week ago, on Jan. 9, the young woman’s body was found next to her car at the bottom of a ravine off Sand Canyon Road.

Later that same day, an estimated 300 people attended an impromptu vigil in her honor at Todd Longshore Park in Canyon Country.

Her relatives, taken aback by the number of people attending the vigil, spent much of their time Monday trying to pick a location for the funeral service that would accommodate a similar outpouring of respect, Alarid said.

People wanting to pay their respects by attending the service at Real Life Church, 23841 Newhall Ranch Road, will be welcomed between 9 a.m. and 10:45 a.m.

A reception is also scheduled at the church beginning at 1 p.m. and lasting until 3 p.m., Alarid said.

The Los Angeles County Coroner’s office ruled this week that Sarah Alarid died accidentally of multiple blunt force injuries.
