Affirmative action needed

To the Editor:

I would like to know what was going through the minds of whatever city department approved a shutdown of Golden Valley Road for a whole week for filming. This is a major route across the valley.

It seems to be just another example of the "Oh, well, it's just Canyon Country" attitude that permeates the decision-making in Santa Clarita.

Hopefully, the money from the permit can be used to give us some of those cool new street signs that have been appearing everywhere else.

No? How about a shoe store? A decent restaurant?

I know this isn't politically correct, but I have just had it. There is an abject, blatant disregard in this city for the quality of life of the residents of Canyon Country. Need a homeless shelter? Why, there is a lovely location off of Golden Valley.

A recycling facility? There is no need to bother the people in the Valencia Industrial area! All you have to do is drive down the already congested Sierra Highway, go through a few residential blocks, and there is a great spot right there!

It seems that amenities in this city begin at the west end and only filter over to Canyon Country if there is anything left. They get a mall expansion, we get an MRF. I am personally going to vote for the City Council candidates who understand that their job requires equal treatment for all communities, and that it's time for some affirmative action for Canyon Country.

I live here because I want to live here. If I have to drive all the way to Valencia to buy a pair of shoes, at least leave Golden Valley open.
