Santa Clarita Christian School’s girls basketball team continued its 2012-13 struggles Thursday night against Vasquez at SCCS, coming up short in a 49-12 rout.
“Our goals on this team are working hard and being obedient and respectful,” said Cardinals head coach Landon Miller. “As long as we accomplish those goals we are satisfied with where we are at right now.”
The Cardinals (0-3) are playing basketball for the first time in two years, as the program took a hiatus in 2011-12.
Unfortunately for the Cardinals, the roster is slim with just six players, three of which had never played basketball before the league season began.
The Cardinals will hope to yield better results once Heritage League play begins, although Thursday’s blowout loss to a 4-6 Vasquez team isn’t a welcome sign.
Yet Miller remains optimistic.
“Today I saw a lot of improvement in regards to how we read the game. We just didn’t have the execution to back up our improved IQ,” Miller said.
Cardinals sophomore Aubrey Robinson was a bright spot for SCCS Thursday, scoring all of the team’s 12 points.
