Vandals with a chain saw left more than 1,300 Santa Clarita Valley residents in the dark for three hours Thursday after cutting down a utility pole, a spokeswoman for Southern California Edison said.

At 9:17 a.m. Thursday, the electricity went out for 1,352 customers of the utility company in Canyon Country and Saugus, said Vanessa McGrady.

“Vandals cut down a utility pole with a chain saw,” she said.

Utility workers found the downed pole along Ruether Avenue north of Santa Clara Street, McGrady said.

Power was returned to many residents throughout the morning, with full power restored by 12:17 p.m., exactly three hours after it went out.

Utility officials are working with law enforcement to identify the culprits, she said.
