Culinary Wonders' owners and Le Cordon Bleu Chefs, Herve Guillard, right, and Judy Gilbert, lead a class.

Local cooking business Kitchen Wizards changed its named to Culinary Wonders as of Jan. 1, in response to a request from a Pennsylvania business with the same name.

The cooking school on Cinema Drive opened early 2012 under the name Kitchen Wizards, but in the spring the owners, Judy Gilbert and Herve Guillard, were contacted by the attorney of Kathy’s Just Desserts & Kitchen Wizards, a bakery in Blue Bell, Penn., that also teaches cooking classes. The Pennsylvania business had a federal trademark for the name.

The Valencia cooking business was able to maintain the design of its logo, Gilbert said, but had to find a new name and remove any mention of magic in the concept (the original slogan was “Let’s Cook Up Some Magic”). So the two chefs, with the help of trademark litigator, came up with Culinary Wonders.

“So far there doesn’t seem to be too much of a problem,” Gilbert said, adding that new social media pages have been added and the original website now directs to, where the tagline now says “Let’s Cook Up Cooking School.”

“To have to rebrand after a year, it was like starting over,” Gilbert said. “But we’re moving right along and the beginning of the year is looking pretty good already.”

Culinary Wonders hosts cooking classes for children, adults, parties and corporate events. Gilbert said the business sees more than 100 participants come through the teaching kitchen each month and the pair has plans to run spring break and summer cooking classes.
