A 59-year-old man hit by a pickup truck in Saugus on Monday died early Tuesday morning as a result of his injuries, a sheriff’s spokesman said.

William Leng, who lived on Little Fall Court in the Circle J Ranch area of Saugus, died at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, said Lt. Mark Hershey of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“This man succumbed to his injuries at about 6 a.m.,” he said.

Shortly after 8:40 a.m. Monday, Leng was hit by a white Dodge Ram pickup truck on Via Princessa at Oak Ridge Drive less than 200 feet from his home.

“The guy was crossing at the crosswalk on Via Princessa when a car, apparently making a left turn, must not have seen him and hit him,” Hershey said Monday. Leng hit his head on the ground after being hit by the pickup truck.

Leng was taken to the hospital with serious head injuries and remained in critical condition until his death.

The driver of the pickup truck was also taken to the hospital, where he provided a blood sample. Drugs or alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the collision, investigators said.

Leng moved into the Circle J condominium about three years ago from Cordova, Tennessee.

Local detectives were investigating the incident. Anyone who witnessed it was asked to contact Detective Travis Kelly at (661) 255-1121.
