The botched theft of half a dozen vodka bottles from a Newhall grocery store Sunday ended up with three of the bottles being recovered and the other three smashed on the ground, a local sheriff’s spokesman said.
Shortly after 2 p.m., a man grabbed the six bottles of alcohol from the Vons store on Lyons Avenue at Wiley Canyon Road and ran to a getaway car, said Lt. Tom Bryski with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
“We’re treating it as a burglary,” he said.
However, when the thief ran out of the store he dropped the bottles — smashing half of them.
A woman was reportedly waiting in the driver’s seat of the getaway car described as a gray Lexus sedan.
Both culprits are described as black, with the man estimated at 29 years old, Bryski said.
The car was last seen eastbound on Lyons Avenue.
