Golden Valley senior running back Leon Jacobs has changed direction.

Jacobs has decommitted from Fresno State after accepting a scholarship offer in December.

“I feel like I want to open up my options to different options. A lot of schools have contacted me. I want to feel for my future I really want to go in depth (in my search),” Jacobs said.

Fresno State recruited the 6-foot-3-inch, 215-pound athlete as a linebacker.

Jacobs figures to still be a linebacker at the next level, despite playing half the season at the position and rushing for a team-high 847 yards on 133 carries with five touchdowns for the Grizzlies.

The senior hadn’t played football since his freshman year at Bishop Montgomery of Torrance, but made a big impact for the Grizzlies in 2012.

He was selected to The Signal’s All-Santa Clarita Valley First-Team Offense and was an All-Foothill League Second-Teamer.

Jacobs said he will go on a recruiting trip to Wake Forest in two weeks.

Known more for his basketball talent before arriving on campus at Golden Valley, he started the 2012-13 season on the Grizzlies basketball team, but gave the sport up to concentrate on his football recruitment.

Jacobs, though, rejoined the basketball team this week.

He said his interest is playing football at the collegiate level and not basketball.
