Singers serious about their sound can audition for the Santa Clarita Master Chorale’s spring concert on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. or on Monday from 3-6 p.m. at Valencia United Methodist Church.
During the mid-year auditions, the group will select new singers to join its classical concert at the Performing Arts Center in March, which will feature two French requiems.
“It’s a thrilling concert because it’s such great music. Even folks that have not been trained in music will recognize at least one of the pieces, if not both,” said Allan Petker, the group’s artistic director.
The four-part audition includes a vocal exercise to gauge range, a song performance of the singer’s choice, a sight reading exam and a possible pitch memory test, Petker said. Auditioning singers should come ready with music for the group’s accompanying musician.
Members are expected to attend weekly rehearsals on Monday nights from 7-9:30 p.m., starting on Jan. 7.
In its 14th season, the nonprofit performs three concerts each year under the direction of Artistic Director Allan Petker.
