A brazen burglar startled a napping homeowner in Stevenson Ranch Thursday afternoon when he broke into the home and stole a purse, a sheriff’s spokesman said.
No one was hurt in the break in, said Lt. Bill Weiss of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
About 3:20 p.m., sheriff’s deputies received a report of a daring daytime burglary from a homeowner on Quartz Mesa Lane in Stevenson Ranch, about 700 feet northeast of West Ranch High School, he said.
“It’s a residential hot prowl burglary,” Weiss said. “We say it’s ‘hot’ because the people were home at the time of the burglary.
“In this case, the person ( a woman) was taking a nap at the time.”
The burglar stole a purse from the home, he said.
Deputies dispatched to the call began combing the streets in the Stevenson Ranch neighborhood.
No arrest had been made by 4 p.m.
