Some of us want to be better-looking, slimmer or more successful. Some of us want to be more spiritual. And some of us just want to get the bills paid. We hit the streets of Santa Clarita to find out what residents’ New Year’s resolutions are for 2013, and this is what we found.

“I want to start figuring out what kind of career is good for me, I guess for my personality type. Maybe start school. I graduated high school like a year ago, and I’ve been pretty much just working up until now. I want to start looking for more of a career-type job rather than starting-position jobs.”

— Isaac Walker, 19, Canyon Country

“I want to be more focused on figuring out exactly what I want ... I’m going to school, and I work for my sister.”

— Shayna Mullenger, 18, Canyon Country

“I’ve been a teacher for three years, and I haven’t been able to get a contract yet with the school budget crisis. I’ve been subbing for like six years. So I’ve been trying to get a permanent teaching job.”

— Glenn Hatridge, Canyon Country

“I’d like to pay all my bills off this year. I don’t want to owe anybody anything. Normal household bills.”

— Gary Haynes, Canyon Country

“Continuing to try to be more like Jesus.”

— Tom Warren, 89, Valencia
