LOS ANGELES (AP) — A cold and dry airmass has brought a big chill to Southern California.

Temperatures early Friday have dipped below freezing in some areas, and a frost advisory is in effect until midmorning.

Lowest temperatures are expected in wind-sheltered locations.

Along the coast, the National Weather Service says a large west-northwest swell continues to generate high surf along exposed west-facing beaches of southern San Diego County. Surf heights are expected to diminish in the afternoon and build again Saturday afternoon into Sunday.
