City calls artists to contribute to new exhibition

Theme: 'Visions of Santa Clarita: Where the Good Life Takes You'

The City of Santa Clarita Arts & Events Office (AEO) and the Santa Clarita Arts Advisory Committee (SCAAC) seek to develop an exhibition using The Santa Clarita Valley as inspiration.

Potentially, 20 pieces of artwork or more will be selected for inclusion in the exhibit "Visions of Santa Clarita: Where the Good Life Takes You."

Interested artists are asked to send the materials to Jeff Barber as requested in HOW TO APPLY (below):

"Visions of Santa Clarita: Where the Good Life Takes You." is an Art in Public Places program by the City of Santa Clarita. All artist submissions will be reviewed and selected by the Santa Clarita Arts Advisory Committee. The City of Santa Clarita reserves the right to remove any of the completed works of art if it becomes necessary.

What is your vision of the Santa Clarita Valley? Artist's using a variety of medium including photography, paint, multi-media, etc. are encouraged to submit existing or new works based on the exhibition theme "Visions of Santa Clarita: Where the Good Life Takes You." Artist may submit no more than two (2) works for consideration.

Although the City of Santa Clarita, Arts & Events Office and the Santa Clarita Arts Advisory Committee do not endorse any restriction on any particular artistic content, in making decisions the project's Artist Selection Panel will consider the fact that people of all ages will see this artworks(s).

The selected works will be exhibited in the First Floor Gallery, which is located at City Hall.

The project is open to all artists, regardless of race, color, religion, natural origin, gender, age, military status, sexual orientation, marital status, or physical or mental disability.

February 20, 2009 Postmark deadline for application materials
February 23, 2009 Artist Selected by the Arts Advisory Committee
March 2 - 5, 2009 Artists deliver completed artwork to City Hall
March 16 to June 12, 2009 Artwork exhibited in the First Floor Gallery

The City of Santa Clarita, AEO and SCAAC reserve the right to change the project timeline.

Artists interested in being considered should submit the following materials by the February 20, 2009 postmark deadline for application materials:
1. Send a full color photocopy or photograph of the artwork(s) with dimensions, material(s) used, approximate weight, title, and date created of each piece.
2. SASE. A self- addressed stamped envelope must be included for the return of application materials.
3. Optional. The artist may include up to three selections of support materials such as review, news articles, and other related information.
