A sheriff’s patrol car rolling to the scene of a domestic violence call was struck by a white Ford Explorer Thursday afternoon, sheriff’s officials reported.

The patrol car had cleared the intersection of Wiley Canyon and Orchard Village roads around 2:45 p.m. when it was hit by the Explorer, said Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Lt. Bill Weiss.

The extent of injuries was not immediately known, Weiss said, adding that the occupants of both cars, the deputy and the passenger from the Explorer, would be taken to the hospital “as a precaution.”

Those two have since been treated and released, according to Detective Travis Kelly.

The intersection was blocked by wreckage until about 3:45 p.m. Sheriff’s deputies directed traffic at the scene until the sheriff’s vehicle and the car could be towed away.

A truck from the ISS Facilities Services company was also involved in the crash, albeit minorly. There was no immediately apparent damage to the truck, which was parked at the stoplight at the time.

Lee Ciuffitelli, director of operations for ISS, said the driver and the passenger would be transported to urgent care as a precaution.
