Jonathan William Maier, burglary suspect, is now in custody.

Deputies from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff Station's Community Interaction Team (CIT), arrested Jonathan William Maier, MW/19, of Canyon Country, on several felony charges today. With the help of Santa Clarita residents, detectives identified Maier back in October 2008 in connection with a burglary incident in Newhall. The incident occurred on Tuesday, September 9th, 2008, between 12:20 and 1:40 p.m. at the Homeros Gift Shop at 23413 Lyons Avenue, Newhall.

The identification came just one day after Detectives from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station - Burglary and Theft team posted a Special Bulletin on the SCVSheriff.com. Deputies had telephonic contact with Maier and others associated with him on several occasions over the past few months. He continued to claim he was going to turn himself in to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station, but he never did. His more than three months on the run ended today when deputies spotted him walking near Granary Square, Valencia, and took him into custody without incident. He was walking with a female companion who was also arrested on unrelated misdemeanor charges.

A second man, Kevin Anthony Voytish, MW/20, of Valencia, who was initially being sought for questioning in connection with the case, has been cleared of any involvement. Detectives are also investigating the extent of Maier's involvement in a second incident, which is a Robbery that occurred on the same date of the Burglary in the parking lot of the Vallarta Market at 23449 Lyons Avenue, Newhall (-ref 16116). During that incident a woman was assaulted and her purse was stolen.

Maier was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station on a felony charge of Felon in Possession of a Firearm. He had two existing warrants for felony Grand Theft and a misdemeanor warrant for Possession of a Switchblade Knife. He was also on probation and is being held without bail pending future court proceedings.
