The week after Hart High graduate Megan Ford was named Wilson California Collegiate Athletic Association Women’s Basketball Player of the Week at Cal Poly Pomona, she tore her ACL.

Ford was coming down from a rebound when she had her legs taken out by another player Jan. 10 in a game against UC San Diego.

The true freshman said she will have surgery next month and is expected to be out five to six months.

She started all 15 games she played in and finished the season averaging 10.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game.

D-Rod is All-State

We’re sure people have had their fill of Saugus High quarterback Desi Rodriguez, but the fact is, he had quite a season.

And though football season ended a month ago, award season is January for prep football.

With all that said, Rodriguez claimed another prize this week when he was named to the All-State Third Team.

Rodriguez has already claimed The Signal’s and Foothill League’s player of the year awards as well as the CIF-Southern Section Northern Division Co-Offensive Player of the Year.

The senior quarterback committed to the Air Force Academy earlier this month.

TMC hoops struggles

The Master’s College men’s basketball team fell out of the NAIA Division I Top 25 poll this week.

The Mustangs have struggled of late, losing five of their last seven games.

TMC was blown out 92-68 by NAIA’s No. 6 team Fresno Pacific on Tuesday.

The funk has lessened the Mustangs’ chances of making the NAIA National Tournament.
The Master’s women face a similar fate.

They also held a place in the top 25 three weeks ago, but three straight losses have put the Lady Mustangs at 10-9.

Weber State adds Beck to staff

Former College of the Canyons and BYU quarterback Jason Beck was hired by Weber State as its quarterbacks coach, according to Salt Lake City TV station and NBC affiliate KSL. Beck was an All-Western State Conference quarterback for the 2003 Cougars.
