Witnesses said a man in a red SUV nearly ran them over as he evaded Los Angeles County Sheriff’s squad cars at the Valencia Town Center Tuesday evening.

Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff station deputies pursued the vehicle through the mall parking lot and onto surface streets, said Jake Marton, 16 of Valencia.

“Deputies chased the vehicle down Town Center Drive, through our surface lots and off the property,” said Raj Chandani, mall general manager.

The California Highway Patrol assisted deputies in pursuit of the car southbound along I-5 until the vehicle crashed in Sylmar, Officer Jose Nunez said.

No further information was immediately available.
