Two local companies have been recognized by the entrepreneurial-focused Inc. Magazine in its debut of the Hire Power Awards.

The award identifies private businesses that have generated the most jobs in the past three years. On that list are AMS Fulfillment and Sonic Electronix, both of Valencia.

AMS was honored in the Logistics and Transportation industry and Sonic in the Consumer Products & Services category.

AMS Fulfillment, founded in 2002, generated 227 jobs from 2008 to 2011, placing it at sixth among the 10 private business job creators within its industry category, said a spokesman for the company. AMS also ranked 1,051 nationally on the 2012 Inc. 5000 list of the fastest growing companies for having recorded a 301 percent growth in the past three years.

A third-party resource for warehouse and inventory management services, and order fulfillment services, AMS has attracted name-brand retailers from across the United States and Canada.

Founded in 2000, Sonic Electronix, created 115 new jobs between 2008 and 2011. The company operates an online website selling car and other consumer electronics. It carries some 20,000 electronic products and fills orders out of two warehouses – one in Valencia and the other in Kentucky. The two facilities send out some 2,000 orders per day on average.

The top 100 companies on the list created 73,032 American jobs in the three-year period from 2008 to 2011 — that’s job growth that came during the height of the recession, said Eric Schurenberg, Inc.’s editor in chief. Companies with less than $50 million in annual revenue make up nearly one-third of the Hire Power list, he said.

AMS Fulfillment also received the Business of the Year award from the California Association of Enterprise Zones, at its annual conference in Santa Clarita in November. And the company was ranked the number one Family Business in 2012 by the Santa Clarita Valley Business Journal.

As AMS grows, the company has focused part of its recruiting efforts on providing jobs for people who face challenges in the workforce, such as at-risk youth, developmentally disabled adults and veterans.

“AMS Fulfillment has enjoyed over 300 percent growth the past three years, and we continue to grow,” said Ken Wiseman, CEO. “At the end of 2011 we had 297 employees, and today we employ more than 500, which includes our temp labor force.
