Senior Center concert
The Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center’s music program will perform at Westfield Valencia Town Center 7-9 p.m. Conducted by Maestro John Swinford, the Silvertone Singers, Silver Belles, Silver Beaux and Memory Makers will perform holiday songs in the courtyard area outside JCPenney. Go board game club
Go is one of the most challenging games ever discovered, and is enjoyed by millions of people all over the world. It is the oldest board game on Earth played in its original form. It is easily learned by a 4-year-old child, yet too complex for the world’s best computers to beat an advanced beginner. The event will be held 6:30-8:30 p.m. at C.A.R.E. On this date in the SCV: In 1999, sheriff’s deputies found seven bags full of toys on the corner of Bouquet Canyon and Newhall Ranch Road. Deputies located the bags after a woman spotted trash bags with names on them at 8 p.m.

Today’s Highlight in History: On Dec. 21, 1937, Walt Disney’s first feature-length animated cartoon, “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,” had its world premiere in Los Angeles.

Ten years ago: A military helicopter crash in Afghanistan killed seven German peacekeepers who were on board and two children on the ground; a U.S. soldier was killed in combat. President George W. Bush received a smallpox vaccination, fulfilling a promise he’d made when he ordered inoculations for about a-half million U.S. troops.

Five years ago: A suicide attacker detonated a bomb at a mosque outside the home of Pakistan’s former interior minister, killing at least 50 people.

One year ago: The U.S. Army announced charges against eight soldiers related to the death of a fellow GI, Pvt. Daniel Chen, who apparently shot himself in Afghanistan after being hazed. Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers was selected the 2011 AP Male Athlete of the Year. Robert Griffin III was selected The Associated Press college football player of the year.
