Alan DiFatta, 2013 chairman for the Valley Industry Association's board of directors and sales associate, Accurate Freight Systems

The Signal: For our readers, define VIA’s objective.

Alan DiFatta: Building and connecting SCV industry.

Q: What has been your involvement with VIA?

A: I’m a past chair and was the 2012 vice-chair of programs. I was also a chair for B2B and the Regional Tri-County Conference

Q: Why do you want to be chairman?

A: They made it easy because all of the leadership is coming back so that was an easy decision.

Q: Describe your history/business experience in the Santa Clarita Valley.

A: I was raised in Santa Clarita. I was a business owner, bought and sold a couple of businesses, and I have my real estate broker’s license. I’m currently a sales associate for Accurate Freight Systems.

Q: What do you believe members want from VIA?

A: I think they really want the connections and the information that we provide.

Q: What do you want to achieve in the next year?

A: I want to encourage the entrepreneurial spirit and have everyone imagine their possibilities.

Q: Are there any new initiatives you would like to launch in 2013?

A: We’re going to stay pretty true to our core competencies, but we’re planning to launch an entrepreneurial academy and a junior entrepreneurs program. We’re thinking ninth grade and up. We should have a couple of industry-related luncheons for our monthly VIA luncheons. Come to the January meeting and see City Manager Ken Striplin speak.
