Registered nurses who are members of the California Nurses Association and National Nurse Organizing Committee will hold a candlelight vigil from 6:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. tonight on the sidewalk in front of Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital.

The union and hospital officials have been in contract negotiations for about 60 days but are at an impasse on the final issue of performance-based pay, said union negotiator Karleen George.

The union wants the hospital to throw out the performance-based pay issue, she said.

"If they took that off the table we could sign the contract right now," George said.

Hospital officials could not be reached by presstime.
