Santa Clarita Valley sheriff’s burglary detectives have arrested a Saugus woman on reports she was stealing packages off her neighbors’ porches, officials reported today.

Mariola Gorak-Doughlin, 58, was arrested outside her home on the 21800 block of Maged Court after a witness reported seeing a female taking packages from the neighbor’s porch, said a news release from the Sheriff’s Department.

Since early December, several citizens have reported that UPS and Fed-Ex packages have been stolen off the front porches of homes in the Saugus area.

On one occasion, a witness reported seeing a female taking packages from the neighbor’s porch.

After an investigation, detectives secured a search warrant for Gorak-Doughlin’s home, but the suspect was arrested as she was leaving her residence prior to the service of the search warrant. She was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station with a bail of $20,000. The investigation was continuing.

Sheriff’s officials remind local residents that packages sitting on a porch or door step are more likely to be stolen than those collected immediately by residents.

With most of the holiday gifts being delivered this week, residents are encouraged to ensure that someone is home on the day a package is to be delivered.

If this is not possible, send the package to a relative or neighbor that you know will be home during delivery, sheriff’s officials advised.
