The New World Team pulled out its best performances on two hip-hop numbers, "What Does It Take?" and "Out There," and came out on top.
The anticipation mounted as the teams waited for the judges - one of whom was the well-known choreographer Shane Sparks - to decide the fate of the many groups that displayed their endless talent.
When New World was announced as the winner, the team members stampeded up the stage to collect the sparkling trophy and $1,000 in cash, for each of the winning routines.
The experience of not only competing with such a plethora of brilliant dancers, but winning first place over them all, is a memory sure to last in my mind for years to come.
"The dance world can, at times, be cut-throat and merciless," said team member Reina Glenn. "But sometimes all the hard work results in literal and figurative rewards. My friends and I at New World Dance hope that every dancer gets a chance to show just how much drive, skill, and luck they have."
