For the fifth year, Santa Clarita residents lit up their bikes to gear up for the holiday season during Saturday’s annual Lights of Newhall Family Ride.

The event is put on by the Newhall Bicycle Co. every year.

Roger Hasper, the owner of the Newhall Bicycle Co., said the event started as a way to bring together both the cycling community and the community at large during the holidays.

“This might be the only time of the year I get to ride with about three-fourths of the people who show up,” Hasper said. “It’s a blast.”

The event is a four-mile ride in and around Newhall, with stops to view various Christmas light displays.

But some of the more impressive light arrays are found on the bikes themselves, as decorating one’s ride is a tradition of the event.

“We do get some blinged-out bikes,” Hasper said.

Hasper estimated the event has about 50 participants each year.
