A 26-year-old man is in custody after allegedly throwing a lit Molotov cocktail though his parents’ Castaic home window Thursday morning, according to a police statement.

Ahmad Smadi, of Sun Valley, reportedly had made threats against his family before the attack, according to Capt. Mike Parker with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies arrived on scene at the 30500 block of Corsica Place in Castaic and found that the device did not function as designed, and there was no fire or injuries.

Smadi was wanted for felony use of a destructive device and making terrorist threats. He also was possibly facing federal charges that were under investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

He left the scene of the crime and a search was underway when California Highway Patrol found and impounded his car.

Due to threats that were made against his roommates, friends and family members, investigators made contact or attempted to contact relatives and friends in Sun Valley, Burbank and Glendale.

California Highway Patrol Officers reported that they had Smadi in custody in Oxnard at around 7 p.m.

A Los Angeles County sheriff’s representative confirmed that Smadi was in custody and was being interviewed by officers. She could not confirm if he had been charged yet.
