The Sierra Hillbillies Square and Round Dance Club celebrated their 45th anniversary with dance called by Charlie Robertson and with Cindy Mower cuing rounds.

The dance was attended by more than 140 dancers from around the Southland who attended to celebrate the milestone for the club.

More than 40 Sierra Hillbillies club members also attended.

The event featured door prizes that were awarded frequently throughout the afternoon and abundant refreshments to keep the dancers’ energy high.

Honoring the community-giving traditions of the activity (square dance was the usual source of entertainment at community barn-raising celebrations as Americans moved westward), clubs like the Sierra Hillbillies continue to support community needs.

At the October dance, the Harvest Festival & Food Pantry Benefit called by Andy Allemao, produced a mountain of donations to benefit the Santa Clarita Valley Food Pantry.

The Sierra Hillbillies club dances on the first Sunday of the month from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center, 22900 Market St., Newhall. The club also offers classes through the Santa Clarita Parks & Recreation Department taught by instructor Rod Shuping. Info:
