LOS ANGELES (AP) — A veteran Los Angeles County sheriff's captain was critically injured when the car she was driving collided head-on with another vehicle in the Santa Clarita Valley area.

Sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore says 47-year-old Carrie Stuart is being treated at a hospital for multiple injuries following the crash Friday night.

The California Highway Patrol says the driver of the other car, a 38-year-old man from Elizabeth Lake, suffered moderate injuries. His name was not released.

The CHP says Stuart was driving a 2009 Ford southbound on San Francisquito Canyon Road when her vehicle drifted into the northbound lane. It collided with a 2010 Acura that then overturned onto on the road's dirt shoulder.

The CHP says no one has been arrested in connection with the crash.

Stuart, a 28-year department veteran, lives in the LA area and has four children.
