The Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center was technically closed on Thanksgiving Day (and the following Friday), but it was abuzz with activity.

For the third year in a row, the Castaic and Santa Clarita Lions clubs teamed up with the William S. Hart Union High School District and hosted a free Thanksgiving feast. I can’t express enough thanks to them for providing a fantastic meal for our community’s seniors.

Not only did they serve a traditional Thanksgiving meal with all the trimmings, they sent each attendee home with a meal for the following day.

And if that wasn’t enough, they also distributed meals for Thanksgiving and Friday to our Home-Delivered Meals recipients. All told, more than 500 meals were served and delivered, free of any cost to the Senior Center.

Community service such as this is an overwhelming, heartwarming gift.

In addition to the Lions Clubs and Hart district, I want to thank our title sponsor, Chiquita Canyon, and our event sponsors: Gate King Properties, Advantage Disposal and Recycling Services, Placerita Canyon Property Owners Association, EZ Access Self-Storage, Seventh Day Adventist Church, The Real Side with Joe Messina, Home Instead Senior Care, Confidential Data Destruction Company, American Family Funding, The Plaza at Golden Valley and Santa Clarita Real Estate.

Our Thanksgiving food donors included: Salt Creek Grille, Larsen’s Steakhouse, TPC Valencia, Vines Restaurant and Bar, Chi-Chi’s Pizza, Six Flags Magic Mountain, Wildcat Grille Premier Meat Company, and the College of the Canyons Institute for Culinary Education.

I’d also be remiss if I did not extend thanks to The Signal', and KHTS-AM 1220 for publicizing the meal in advance, as well as great coverage by The Signal and

So thank you to everyone who had a hand in making Thanksgiving at the Senior Center something to celebrate. It is a pleasure to be part of such a giving community.
