Vons looks to fill dozens of job openings

A jobs recruitment event is set for 9 a.m. Friday at the Santa Clarita WorkSource Center, located on the College of the Canyons Valencia campus.

Vons grocery retailer needs to fill more than a dozen positions for courtesy and bakery clerks, a barista, deli and meat clerk in Santa Clarita, said Keri Aaver, interim director for the Santa Clarita WorkSource Center. Pay ranges from $8.10 to $9.25 per hour.

Applicants need to complete an online application prior to the recruitment event and must be 18 years old and have a high school diploma or equivalent, Aaver said.

Recruitment for businesses that are expanding or moving into the area is a service provided by the city of Santa Clarita through the WorkSource Center, said Jason Crawford, marketing and economic development manager for the city.

“When the 99-cent Only store opened in Valencia, they were able to fill all their positions through the WorkSource Center,” Crawford said.

The recruitment service helps businesses with retail and part-time openings, he said. It also helps people who are looking for those positions.

Services provided by the WorkSource Center, however, are different than the city’s efforts to provide jobs by attracting companies to Santa Clarita, Crawford said.

“When we go after businesses (to relocate), we look for companies with professional jobs; we look at companies in biomedical, aerospace and other professional industries,” he said.

Applicants can apply online at before attending the WorkSource Center or by calling 661-799-9675 to sign up.
