A man stabbed to death at his Newhall home early Sunday may have died confronting a burglar, homicide detectives said Monday.
Franco Olea, 28, of 15th Street, died shortly after 2:20 a.m. at his home between Chestnut and Walnut streets, said Lt. John Corina of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau.
“Detectives have learned that deputies responded to the above location regarding a ‘possible burglary’ 911 call,” detectives said in a news release issued Monday morning.
“Upon their arrival, deputies discovered the victim, a 28-year-old male Hispanic, lying on the driveway suffering from what appeared to be a stab wound,” they said.
The victim was taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
“Witnesses stated that they heard a car’s alarm activate on the street,” Corina said.
“When they went outside, the witnesses saw the victim fighting with another male Hispanic in the driveway of the residence,” he said. “The suspect appeared to stab the victim and then left the location in an unknown direction.”
